act和action辨析
均含有“動作或行爲"的意思。
act 強調動作的結果, 指單一的和個人的動作, 適用於個人力量可以完成的事, 一般屬暫時性的, 如:
No act of kindness is ever wasted.
action 強調動作的方式和歷程, 而且指比較複雜的動作, 需要較長時間才能完成的事
還應注意在機械和物理用語中,不能用act, 要用action, 如:the action of heat 熱的作用;反之,在an act of kindness一語中, 若改爲an action of kindness也是錯誤的。這裏強調行爲的結果和單一性。
