第一段詞彙解析
①delicate = pleasant and not strong。
②observant = quick to notice things。
③came into the possession = became the owner of。
④stuff = material, matter, substance。
⑤賓語從句中含有一個賓語從句。
第二段詞彙解析
①這裏的 for 是 ask for 的略寫，所以 for 相當於動詞短語作謂語。
②if 引導的條件狀語從句中含有一個省略了 that 的 she…it 作 told 的直接賓語的從句， him 作間接賓語。
③insoluble = that will not dissolve (in water)。
④to keep a straight face = not to laugh, to stop oneself from laughing。
⑤is quite beyond me = I do not understand it。
第三段詞彙解析
①該句是正常語序，因爲是從句，所以用正常語序，如果是倒裝則爲： How did he buy his precious bottle of mud.。
②to explain 到 freckles 作狀語（不是從句）， that 引導的賓語從句作 explain 的賓語，從句中還有一個 which 引導的定語從句修飾 substance。
