新概念英語第三冊學習筆記：第2課 Thirteen Equals One

第一段詞彙解析
①一直在幹什麼，有含蓄抱怨之意。
②vicar = priest， clergy， pastor，牧師。
③repaired = fixed。
④used to do，過去常常，區別 be/get used to +n./doing，習慣。
第二段詞彙解析
①with a start = in surprise，驚跳、驚奇。
②the clock was striking the hours！是放在冒號後面的解釋分句，另外， strike oil 大發橫財； strike the right note 說到點子上，恰到好處。
③caught sight of = saw。
第三段詞彙解析
①Bill 在這裏是稱呼語。
②一般說來，引號中的話都作說話動詞的賓語從句。
③to give you a surprise.整個不定式短語作賓語，而該賓語本身是 give 所帶的雙賓語結
構， you 爲間接賓語（一般指人）， a surprise 爲直接賓語（一般指物）。 Give you a surprise
= give a surprise to you，一般間接賓語放在直接賓語前，而直接賓語放到間接賓語前需
要加 to，類似詞 bring, give, show, send, pass, tell。
