茶話會第447期:你嚇死我了
1. Don't be scared. He's just crying wolf again.
“狼來了”的故事大家一定都聽說過。Cry wolf這個詞就是源於《伊索寓言》中的故事：一個牧童常喊“狼來了！”使鄰人驚慌而自己從中取樂，後來狼果然來了，但是沒有人相信他的呼喊，於是他的羊羣全部被狼咬死了。日常生活中，人們用這個詞形容那些發出假警報欺騙他人的行爲。If you cry wolf too often, people will stop believing that you need help 如果你常喊“狼來了”，人們便不會再相信你需要幫助。
2. I didn't mean to freak out everybody with the bad news.
Mean to do在這裏是：“故意做某事”的意思，freak out這個詞組經常會用到，You freak me out!這句話是說：你嚇死我了!所以freak out就是make sb. scared/shocked-嚇人，使震驚。I didn't mean to freak out everybody with the bad news. 我不是故意用壞消息嚇唬大家的。Don't freak out, it's not the end of the world. 別害怕，還沒到世界末日呢。這裏的freak out就是害怕的意思。
3. Please wait a minute, I'll go with you out of hand.
請等一下，我立即跟你走。前半句是說請等一下，minute就是分鐘的意思，wait a minute請等一會兒。我會馬上跟你走的，這裏的馬上用到的是out of hand，除此之外，“馬上、立即”還有right away, at once等等。Out of hand還有一個意思就是無法控制。The pollution is out of hand and becomes very dangerous. 污染失去控制，十分危險。
