大，是一個表示體積數量重量氣勢的形容詞，如大人大禮大山大火，都表示超出尋常的意思，同時在中央新聞中我們常常聽到四大國有銀行和九大常委之類的“大”的表達。那麼在英文中的“大”是如何表達的呢？

四大國有銀行——工商銀行，建設銀行，中國銀行和農業銀行——在8月份的前半月新增貸款700億元人民幣，這比上月同時段的500億貸款數額增幅不小。
我們可以看到Big Four就是“四大”。原文中的四大，是指四個主要的國有銀行，應該說big來形容“主要的”有些不太貼切，但是我們知道英語和漢語一樣都是很成熟靈活的語言系統，這麼翻譯中文，外國人也不難理解。
