Good afternoon ,ladies and gentlemen! I’m very honored to stand here andgive you a short speech! my topic is Opportunities and Challenges. First, Iwould like to know, what does your destiny offer you? Happiness, wisdom, astrong body or something else. If I had asked this question to president Nixon,he would probably had said,”Our destiny offers not the cup of despair, but thechalice of opportunity.” Needless to say, one of the biggest opportunitiesgiven to China is the 2008 Olympic Games. Till now, we have used two sevenths ofthe preparation time. How much changes have you seen? New roads, new subwaylines, public-exercising equipments with beautiful colors, large blocks of grassfields, and also lots of modern gyms which are under construction. Other thanthose, there are even more good effects brought to us by the Olympic Games thatcannot be seen directly. For example, more and more people will get to knowChina. I’m sure the mysterious Chinese culture will attract them strongly. Andthe games will also do good to the economy and environment, for it is gainingthe attention of foreign investors and the awareness of environmental protectionis being strengthened. What is more, Olympic Games give a unique opportunity toinspire and educate a new generation of Chinese youth with the Olympic valuesand the Olympic spirit. Now that we have seen so many advances, could you evenimagine us losing the holding rights? I’ve already said a lot about theOlympics and China. But I think everyone should use some time to think of thisquestion, ”Does the Olympic Games have any special meaning to you?” For us, Imean the Chinese youth, 2008 Olympic Games is a tremendous gift. Because what weare waiting for is to do something significant as repaying the love given to society is just like a ship, and in our dreams the captain is waving hishand and saying ”Hey! Come here and take the helm! ”How charming his voice is,but we have never heard of it in our true life. This morning, however, when wewake up, we will see the Olympic Games waving its hand. After chewing, most ofus will have at least one plan about what to do for the Olympic Games. And mineis to be a “comforter” ----that is someone who will give comfort to others. Atthe end of my speech, I hope all the preparation will go well, and everyone willshow their ability to the world. Let us seize opportunities and give a big smileto challenges.

Good afternoon, everyone! The topic of my speech today is “Being a GoodListener”. Good listening can always show respect, promote understanding, andimprove interpersonal relationship. Many people suggest that parents shouldlisten more to their children, so they will understand them better, and find iteasy to narrow the generation gap; teachers should listen more to theirstudents, then they can meet their needs better, and place themselves in a goodrelationship with their students; students should listen more to theirclassmates, thus they will help and learn from each other, and a friendship islikely to be formed. What I want to stress is that each of us should listenmore to others. Show your respect and never stop others till they finish theirtalk; show you are interested by a supportive silence or a knowing smile; beopen-minded to different opinions even though you don’t like them. In a word, good listening can really enable us to get closer to each other. Thank you foryour listening!

You know all this is real as long asyou are confident, passionate and committed! And you are confident, you arepassionate, you are committed!

You will no longer fear making new sounds, showing new facial expressions, using your body in new ways, approaching new people, and asking new will live every single day of your life with absolute passion, and you willshow your passion through the words you speak and the actions you take. You willfocus all your time and effort on the most important goals of your life. Youwill never succumb to challenges of hardships. You will never waver in yourpursuit of excellence. Ladies and Gentlemen:

My topic is Honesty.

As a correspondent of the Qingdao Morning News, I visited Dr. James Gilman, the President of the International Committee for Marco Polo Studies in this picture, this is James, and this is me and we are looking at a dragon’stooth. This is a true story.

65 years ago, James lived in Qingdao. Then he was only 5 years old. Heoften visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted oneto keep as a treasure.

He kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at havingstolen it was there in the background all through his life. It was always on hisconscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. Finally he decidedto put right his childish error. In 20__, he visited Qingdao and returned it tothe Aquarium with his sincere apologies. He received a warm welcome.

When James visited Qingdao, I accompanied him all the time and reported onhis visit. I was deeply touched by his honesty. It has taught me a lot. I thinkto err is human. The important thing is to have the courage to admit and correctone’s error.

Honesty is a vital quality of human behaviour. So we should try to keep anhonest mind in everything we say and do. I would like to say to all of myfriends: Let’s be honest people of good moral character.

Thank you.
