Marion: Hey, Todd, you are exactly the person I was looking for. I have a favor to ask you.
馬里昂：嘿，託德，你就是我要找的人。我想請你幫個忙。Todd: Sure.
託德：好的。Marion: Well, the thing is, I'm thinking of buying a computer OK, but I really, I don't know too much about computers, you know that, so I want to know, which is better, a laptop or a desktop? Which do you think I should buy?
馬里昂：我想買個電腦，但是我不太瞭解電腦，這點你是知道的，所以我想知道筆記本電腦和臺式電腦哪個好點？你認爲我應該買哪種？
Todd: Ah, that's a good question. Well, I'm not a computer pro but, I guess if you get a desktop computer for your house there's a lot of advantages. It has more memory, it has more power. You can get a bigger monitor for watching movies and things like that, and I think the number one reason that I like the desktop is it doesn't break. You know and it can't be stolen.
託德：嗯，這是個好問題。我也不是電腦專家，不過我認爲家裏買臺式電腦有很多好處。臺式電腦的內存更大，功率也更大。要是喜歡看電影你可以買一個大顯示器，我認爲我最喜歡臺式電腦的地方是它不會輕易損壞。而且也不會被偷。Marion: As easily, yeah.
馬里昂：簡單。Todd: Right, so when you have the laptop, you take it and you carry it everywhere that means it's easier to break, you know you can drop it (yeah) or it's easy to be stolen, so yeah. On the other hand though, if you just want to be mobile with your computer then obviously you want a laptop because you can take it everywhere, and you can use it in different places, so that's actually why I have two. I have a desktop and a laptop.
託德：對，要是買筆記本電腦，你會帶着它去所有地方，這樣一來就很容易損壞，電腦可能會不小心掉到地下，也很容易被偷。另一方面，如果你想隨身攜帶電腦，那顯然你需要買個筆記本，這樣你就可以帶着它去任何地方，在不同的地方使用電腦，所以我有兩臺電腦，一個臺式一個筆記本。Marion: So you have the best of both worlds, really.
馬里昂：兩全其美。Todd: So what do you want to use your computer for?
託德：你的電腦主要用來做什麼？Marion: Well, mainly I want to use it to keep in touch with my family and my friends. That's my number one reason. I'd also like to use it for work, to make work sheets and that kind of thing for school, and the other thing, what was the other thing, oh yes, I want to use it to store my photos from my digital camera. That's really important to me because I'm afraid I'm going to lose one of the CD's and all of those photos or something like that.
馬里昂：嗯，我要用電腦和我的家人還有朋友保持聯繫。這是最重要的。然後我還想用電腦處理一些工作上的事情，爲學校製作工作圖表之類的，還有什麼來着……對，我要用電腦儲存數碼相機上的照片。這對我來說非常重要，因爲我擔心我可能會弄丟光盤或是照片之類的東西。Todd: Well, how often do you think you'll be taking a computer with you, to work or somewhere?
託德：嗯，你通常多久要帶電腦出一次門？Marion: I don't know really. I mean, I suppose I could just buy a laptop and leave it at home, couldn't I?
馬里昂：我也不清楚。我可以買檯筆記本放家裏，對吧？Todd: Sure. Sure. Yeah, I guess if you're just going to use for basic stuff then maybe, a laptop is good for you.
託德：當然可以。如果你只是用電腦進行基礎操作，那我想筆記本電腦比較適合你。Marion: Yeah. Yeah, maybe. It's so confusing. It's such a big decision for me. I don't know what to do. Thanks though for your advice.
