點滴英語天天學第20課:"先放一炮"怎麼說?
點滴英語天天學盡在教學電臺。各位好，這裏是《點滴英語天天學》，我是Juliet。
我主持開會經常會遇到尷尬的局面：會議上就某一教學活動提出意見，老師們或許是出於膽怯心理，都低着頭一聲不吭。但每次會議都會有轉機：總有某個老師壯起膽子來“先放一炮”，然後就一炮接一炮，會議室裏就硝煙瀰漫了。
今天，我們就來學學用一個五星級短語來表達“先放一炮”這個意思。說得通俗點，就是“先開個頭”。咱們先來聽聽下面這位Mike對這次晚會的描述：
Mike: It looked like a dull party with everybody just sitting there. But Dick started the ball rolling by telling a couple of funnny jokes, and then Jack brought out his violin and sang folk songs. People started singing and we had a good time after all.
Mike講述到：聚會一開始，大家都坐在那裏，看起來很沉悶。後來，Dick講了幾個挺滑稽的笑話，總算開了個頭。然後Dick把他的小提琴拿了出來，還唱了幾首民歌。大家也跟着一起唱，說到頭來我們還是會玩得很高興的。
在Mike的描述中，用到一個五星級表示“先放一炮，開個頭”這個意思的短語是：start the ball rolling，其定義爲：to get a process started。表示通過……的方式開了個頭，在短語的後面用介詞by，即爲：start the ball rolling by somehting。我們再通過2個例句來領悟它的意思和看看它的用法：
e.g. The old men started the ball rolling, the others began to throw out their suggestions.（老頭兒們開了頭，別人都紛紛出起主意來。）

e.g. John started the ball rolling by a question in the discussion and everyone else began to ask his questions at once.（約翰再討論中開頭問了一個問題，於是乎大家都涌躍提問起來。）
